At G Photography, we take the job of locating a professional make-up artist off our client's to-do list. With a good handle on what a photo project requires, we do all the screening and leg work. Be it in Arlington, Dallas, or Houston, we have a directory of make-up artists we can call on. Detra is one of our awesome options in the Arlington area.
This past month we had a chance to chat with D about her business.
Let’s cover the basics first…what’s your name and who are you? What or who is your spirit animal?
My name is Detra Harrell and I am a Mom, a wife, and a business owner. I'm a licensed esthetician and professional make-up artist who owns and operates a mobile spa and makeup studio, I come to my client's homes and my customers love the convenience. I would say my spirit animal is a bull, because like a bull, I am very focused. When I set my sights on a goal, I follow through until I achieve it.
Why did you choose to start your own business?
I chose to start my own business because I felt like I kept getting shut down in corporate America. I wanted to create my own lane.
What do you enjoy most about operating a women-led business?
The thing that I most enjoy is the community within the women that are entrepreneurs like myself. We give each other so much support and advice.
What advice do you have for other women (young and old) who are looking to start their own business?
I would say anything is possible, but make sure you have all of your ducks in a row. Do it the right way, and make sure that your business doesn’t FEEL like work.
What one quote reenergizes your spirit when you feel the train is off the track? This can be a Bible verse too…
Philippians 4:6 says: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
I believe in manifestation and putting out what you want into the Universe. I believe if you do that combined with faith whatever you manifest will happen.
