Having your photo taken in any content can be a little anxiety-inducing, and headshots are no exception. After all, these are photos you will use for finding your dream job or advancing your career. That’s definitely no small thing!

Investing in a professional photographer is the best way to ensure you get the headshots you need, but there are some things about headshot photography you may not know. That’s why I wanted to give you a glimpse behind the scenes and tell you a few things that most headshot photographers wish their clients knew.

Your session means just as much to me as it does to you.

I know you’re getting headshots to boost your career or help you find a job. That’s a huge deal, and I know how important it is to you to get quality images you can use to promote your personal brand and career. But your session is a big deal to me too! Photography is my business. It’s what I do every single day, and I want to make sure you have images you love. I want my clients to be happy, so let’s work together to make sure you get exactly what you’re looking for.

I’m more than happy to offer wardrobe advice.

You may feel like you have to figure everything out on your own, but one of the benefits of hiring a professional photographer is their expertise. Not only will I help you with posing and expressions, but I’ve done plenty of headshot sessions and know what outfits look best. If you have a question about what to wear, feel free to ask!

You don’t have to stress about your session.

As a photographer, I’m here to help you get the images you need to take your career to the next level. That means you don’t need to practice poses or expressions in the mirror. Too many times, clients over-prepare and spend the weeks before their shoot stressing about everything they can do wrong. Don’t worry! I’ll be there to coach you, guide you, and help you feel as comfortable as possible.

I know some great locations and poses.

Part of being a photographer is figuring out how to make your subjects look their best. My suggestions for locations or poses may feel a little awkward or unusual, but I promise you’ll love the results. I’ve spent my career refining my craft, and I’ll bring all that knowledge and expertise to your headshot session to help you get the images you want.

Your feedback is important to me.

Once you get your images, I can’t wait to hear what you think of them! I love seeing clients’ reactions to their photos. And don’t be afraid to share with friends and family members just how much you loved your session! Word of mouth is how many photographers get some of their clients, and we always appreciate it.

I do way more than just click a button.

Everyone has a pretty decent camera on their phones these days, so everyone fancies themselves an amateur photographer. But there is so much more to professional photography than simply pointing and shooting. I know how to light and frame a shot, how to pose a subject, and how to capture someone’s personality in a single image. Plus, I spend hours editing to make sure each photo is the best it can be. There’s a lot of education, training, and skill that goes into photography, and I use all of it to create your headshots.
